“A time is coming and has now come when
the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they
are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.” John
4:23
Based on these words of Jesus, FBC is committed to the importance
of “spirit and truth” worship, worship that engages both the heart and
the mind. Our ministry of worship revolves around the intentional coupling
of the powerful truth of scripture with music or other forms of art that encourage
response to that truth, drawing out the emotions and challenging the
will.
To accomplish these basic purposes, a broad variety of congregational
musical styles may be used, from traditional hymns to contemporary expressions
of loud joy, quiet trust, thoughtful repentance, and passionate praise
of God and His character. Other helpful tools, such as drama, media clips,
solo or ensemble music that inspires worship, or other aids are used
from time to time to further engage the whole person.
On a typical Sunday,
congregational worship is supported by a worship team consisting of several
instrumentalists, vocalists, and technical equipment operators. Each Sunday’s
team is selected from participants who have committed themselves
to be available to help lead music and worship at FBC.
Worship
team members must attend services regularly, must be involved in the life
of the church, and must maintain a positive witness and growing personal
walk with Christ, as well as possessing appropriate musical or technical
skills. Len Williams, Minister of Music and Worship, leads this team and
gives overall direction to the worship ministry at FBC. Len is a part-time
staff member, and can be contacted through the church office [360.426.8461] or at his
e-mail: fwlen@hctc.com.
