Children's ministry director job Description

The Director of Children’s Ministry will provide nurturing, biblical teaching to children (infants - 5th grade). You will use your unique gifts to lead and inspire others to enthusiastically volunteer and train children to be lifelong followers of Christ. You welcome new visiting families and help them feel at ease. You will have creative latitude to implement exciting new programs aligned with our Biblical Mission. You should be a Spirit-led shepherd (Philippians 2:5, Matthew 19:14) capable of coaching and easily working with others.

Essential Qualifications and Functions:

- Must agree with Shelton FBC’s statement of faith and philosophy of ministry.
- Walk with God regularly and demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-26).
- Vision to disciple and empower others to disciple the next generation of children.
- Share vision and recruit, train, and equip volunteers.
- Passion and understanding of how to care for young children and parents.
- Relational leader who regularly communicates with kids, parents, and staff.
- Leads with confidence and humility, inspiring others to follow Christ.
- A welcoming and hospitable personality.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Identify a Sunday School curriculum with sound doctrine and age relevance.
- Recruit, train, and encourage volunteers in various areas of Children’s Ministry.
- Organize materials to equip others for an impactful Children’s Ministry.
- Orchestrate registration/check-in for Sunday classes and Wednesday events.
- Oversee the Awana program.
- Plan and administer the Children’s Ministry budget.
- Coordinate promotional highlights for Sunday morning.

Additional Responsibilities:

- Oversee the child protection policy including monitoring background checks of volunteers and the check-in/check-out process for children.
- Ensure that all Children’s Ministry staff and volunteers provide and maintain a safe and secure environment for all children.
- Communicate issues/concerns to the pastoral staff/elders/congregation.
- Regularly pray for and encourage volunteers involved in Children’s Ministry.
- Organize community Vacation Bible School and other special events.

Desired Experience and Competencies:

- Prior experience leading, organizing and training volunteers
- Self motivated with independent tasks
- Can work a flexible 20-hour week and oversee an assistant
- Skills that if desired could justify a FT position
- Builds healthy and effective relationships with church members and parents
- Experience planning group programs or events
- Pass background check
- Experience in christian education and working with children and families
- Ability to be self directed
- Good oral and written communication skills
